The American Kyudo Renmei (AKR) was formed in July 1998 to help promote kyudo in America and provide a network of support for all persons interested in the practice of traditional Japanese archery. The AKR is the national governing body for all kyudo in the United States operating under the auspices of the Zen Nihon Kyudo Renmei (All Nippon Kyudo Federation).
Current officers are Dan DeProspero, President (NCKR); Aaron Blackwell, Vice-President (SCKR); Edwin Symmes, Secretary (GKR), and Mark Gabel, Treasurer (NCKR).
Board members are Richard Beal (NKR), Aaron Blackwell, (SCKR), Dan DeProspero (NCKR), Steven Scott (NCKF), Philip Swain (IKR), Edwin Symmes (GKR), and Mark Wegmann (TKR).
Authorized Renmei (Federations) and instructors are currently found in Georgia, Indiana, North Carolina, Northern California, South Carolina, Southern California, and Texas. In addition, some of these federations have affiliates operating in Arizona, Minnesota, Kentucky, Nevada, Virginia and Washington.
